The 2021 Super Rugby season is the 26th season of Super Rugby, an annual men’s international rugby union tournament organised by SANZAAR, involving teams from Australia and New Zealand. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the tournament this year will be wholly regionalized, with the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa season and the 2021 Super Rugby AU season replacing the previous 15 side format used from 2018 till 2020. Super Rugby Trans-Tasman will follow these tournaments, a crossover competition featuring the five Australian sides playing the five New Zealand sides.

Super Rugby fixtures and TV schedule for 2021

The old competition of three pools of five teams in an Australian Conference, New Zealand Conference and South African Conference is officially gone for 2020. It is hoped that will return in 2021.
In the new format, the five Australian teams will play each other twice. The top four teams will then qualify for a finals series, with the grand final slated for 19 September.
2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa season
The 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa season is an upcoming professional club rugby union tournament organized by New Zealand Rugby. Announced on 11 November 2020, the tournament will be the second season of Super Rugby Aotearoa, featuring the 5 New Zealand Super Rugby sides, and will run from 26 February to 8 May 2021.

What is the Super Rugby Aotearoa format?
The new competition format will involve the five New Zealand franchises playing eight matches each. They will play four home and four away, with two byes. There will be two games per week, with kick-off at 7:05pm on Saturday and 3:35pm on Sunday local time (5:05pm AEST and 1:35pm AEST).

Rugby Australia has also announced the 2021 Super Rugby AU season draw with 22 games over 12 action-packed weekends, kicking off on 19 February and concluding with the Final on 8 May.

Is Super Rugby AU on free-to-air?
There is no free-to-air coverage for the Super Rugby AU tournament. Channel 10 has previously shown one game per week or highlight packages, but won’t be for either of the rescheduled competitions.
When does the Super Rugby Australia season restart?
Points from the original Super Rugby season don’t count for the new Super Rugby AU. The season kicks off with a Friday double-header on Feb. 19 with Queensland Reds playing the New South Wales Waratahs at Lang Park in Brisbane, followed by Western Force hosting the defending champions ACT Brumbies in Perth.

2021 Super Rugby Trans-Tasman
The Trans-Tasman tournament will feature an additional 26 games over six straight weeks, kicking off on Friday 14 May next year, with a Final on Saturday 19 June 2021. The competition will feature all 10 Super Rugby teams with each Australian team to play each New Zealand team in 25 crossover matches before the Final.
